Research Brief
A 2023 review of randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials found probiotics improved several IBS symptom outcomes, but results differed by genus, formula, dose, and duration.
Probiotic shopping should start with strain/formula and intended symptom pattern rather than CFU count alone.
It does not prove every probiotic product helps every digestive symptom, and severe or persistent symptoms need medical evaluation.
